About Susan
Thank you to my dear Mom, my collecting days started in August of 1976. She had lunch with a girlfriend who had just purchased a dollhouse (the Visalian) from Miniature Towne USA in Tarzana CA. After visiting the shop that afternoon, Mom knew it was something I would enjoy, so after dinner we went to the shop and just looked in the windows. I fell in love at first glance and am still going strong many years later. In 2001, I found myself a widow and retired. I had worked in my husband's medical/legal practice for 36 years and now I had plenty of time on my hands. Believe it or not my first class was taken in May 2002 and that was Brooke Tucker's Paneled Library. Prior to that I had already built and furnished three complete dollhouses, learning the techniques by reading instructions, pictures and the help of miniature shops. It has been my passion and I have been so blessed, meeting so many wonderful friends through miniatures. Being so close the Larrianne's Small Wonders in Ventura, many of the instructors and students from out of town have stayed with me during the classes. We have a great time sitting at the kitchen table, probably far too late, doing our homework and chatting. My house is know as the B & B for Miniaturists. When I moved into a single story house I had to downsize by 2500 square feet, so my four dollhouses were the first to go. I still have many room boxes as you can see in this book. I also jumped into the world of Ouarter Scale and I am enjoying it as well. I have about & unfinished one inch scale room boxes which I am in the process of completing and will feature along with my additional finished ones in another volume. PS- Believe it or not my Mom's girlfriend never even opened the Visalian box. However, I am ever indebted to her for introducing me to the fabulous world of miniatures.
